From the Library of Congress - - A silent film dated 1909 of Theodore Roosevelts African safari. Skip to 8:30 for Camp Roosevelt - strewn with animal carcasses. And although the captions refer to Zulu warriors, the Zulu were a couple of thousand miles south - these are Masai.
